ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Senior Backend Engineer (Elixir), you'll have a direct impact on the system that powers our workouts, having a direct impact helping our members to get healthy and fit. You'll be developing an Elixir application that runs in an IoT-based system installed in our gyms. You will be responsible for keeping this crucial element to our experience reliable, scalable, observable and maintainable to support our continuous user base growth. We are big fans of devops culture, continuous integration/deployment and less bureaucratic process in favour of autonomy and responsibility.

You will have the opportunity to use cutting-edge tools and technologies, both cloud-based and integrated within our IoT-equipped gyms. This pioneering role involves close collaboration with our Chief Technology Officer, Luis, our Staff Software Engineer Everton, as well as with our engineering and product teams at the Berlin office.

YOU WILL BE WORKING ON

• Building a workout experience that provides high levels of scalability, reliability, and performance, while balancing security, maintainability, and operational excellence.
• Creating engaging fitness digital experiences that are delightful to our members and helps our coaches to deliver the best workout.
• Helping your team deliver business value by taking decisions related to the backend and actively participating in product discussions
• Solve problems arising from our workout experience operations and ensure that the same mistake/error doesn’t happen twice
• Be proactive in performance & availability monitoring; provide remediations for systemic issues
• Ingest requirements, scope work, produce estimates and help define deliverables with project timeline

ABOUT YOU

• You have professional experience as an Elixir Engineer
• Experienced in developing distributed applications
• In the Elixir stack, you have worked with internal Pub-Sub system, Oban, Phoenix + LiveView, and Open-Telemetry
• Strong experience in software architecture and application design, with a track record of making architectural decisions and a understanding of fundamental system architecture and API design (RESTful and event-driven services)
• Experienced in SQL and database schema design (PostgreSQL)
• You write clean and testable code and conduct code reviews
• You are highly cooperative person with the ability to establish and foster relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation
• You are motivated by the challenge to solve problems and you like the fast-paced environment of a startup
• You are fluent in English

WHAT MAKES YOU STAND OUT

• You worked with IoT systems before and are comfortable with tinkering with devices like Raspberry PIs, Bluetooth/ANT+ sensors or similar
• You master safe network configurations and how to leverage them for real time performance
• While being a team player you also like to work independent and hands-on, taking initiative and pushing for topics
• You are comfortable with ambiguity and always willing to teach and learn
